Battery Storage Container Field Test a Rousing Success

FARGO, N.D. (May 15, 2024) — Packet Digital takes battery safety seriously, and as such, tests its products thoroughly. As part of our goal to make ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship drone missions safe and reliable for the U.S. Navy, we put our high safety standards into practice with a battery storage container field test. We spent a day putting our containers through rigorous conditions by conducting a battery fire test within the sealed battery containers.

Once the battery cells reached temperatures high enough to cause combustion, the storage containers worked precisely as designed. A variety of thermal insulation and flame arresters were tested and the ventilation systems performed flawlessly, providing an outlet for high temperatures to escape.

During testing, the average maximum temperature inside the storage containers reached 561 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the outer surface of the container only reached an average maximum temperature of 168 degrees. Throughout the entirety of the test, the outer surface averaged just 96 degrees – less than the average body temperature.
